Getting to Isabela: ferry planning and Galápagos entry checks
Puerto Villamil is the starting point for an Isabela stay, but your international and mainland flights do not usually end at its pier. Draw the complete journey first: arrival island, ground transfer, passenger boat and accommodation. Then place the tours around it.

The short answer
Confirm each transport leg for your travel date and keep fixed excursions off uncertain connection days.
Build the route through Santa Cruz
For a common overland-and-boat approach, a Baltra arrival leads through Santa Cruz to Puerto Ayora before the boat to Puerto Villamil. Allow time for all the stages, inspections and reporting; flight landing time is not the moment you reach the ferry pier.
If starting on San Cristóbal, plan the Santa Cruz connection unless a direct service is explicitly confirmed for your date. Do not treat two separately advertised boat legs as a protected connection. Ask who helps if the first is delayed and whether an overnight stop is needed.
Use confirmed sailing details
The park’s transport overview describes roughly two to three hours for inter-island passenger-boat crossings, depending on sea conditions. It is a planning scale, not a guaranteed crossing time. Its old generic fares and departure table should not substitute for current carrier confirmation.
Ask for the route, departure port, reporting time, vessel, luggage allowance and cancellation rules. Clarify whether water-taxi boarding and any port or municipal charges are included. We could not verify a current official Isabela local visitor surcharge, so this guide does not present a repeated online amount as settled.
Keep archipelago entry costs separate
The main published adult conservation categories are US$200 for ordinary foreign visitors, US$100 for eligible CAN/Mercosur nationals and US$30 for Ecuadorian or Ecuador-resident visitors. The standard advance electronic TCT is US$20. Check full official tables for children, discounts and exemptions.
The TCT and conservation fee are distinct from your boat and activities. Complete the TCT using CGREG’s official service and keep confirmations accessible offline. Ensure the travel dates and accommodation details reflect the trip you actually intend to make.
Prepare the digital biosecurity declaration
ABG ended physical goods-declaration forms on 31 January 2026. Adult arriving passengers use the digital process and present their confirmation to biosecurity inspectors. Follow the agency’s current instructions rather than an old guide telling you to wait for a paper form aboard the aircraft.
Review the official permitted-products list before packing food, seeds, plants or other organic items. Inter-island travel also involves biosecurity controls. Keep bags available for inspection and do not assume an item accepted on one journey can be moved freely between every island.
Make the first afternoon flexible
Confirm how to get from Puerto Villamil’s pier to your accommodation and where to meet your next-day operator. A relaxed arrival leaves time to check equipment, access instructions and the weather-dependent plan before you commit to the main outing.
Our recommendation is a separate full day for the hike or marine trip you most want to do, and a transport buffer before your mainland flight. This is itinerary advice rather than an operating rule. Reconfirm departure messages close to the journey because sea and operational conditions can change.
